Meet Congressman Rogers

worker.jpgU.S. Representative Mike Rogers knows that all Michigan families are struggling to make ends meet. That is why Mike is fighting to stop the uncontrolled spending and borrowing in Washington D.C. that is killing jobs and driving our children and grandchildren deeply into debt.

Mike's 10-point Jobs Plan calls for reining in dangerous government borrowing and spending so small businesses can access the credit they need to create jobs. His common sense, bipartisan solutions to create Michigan jobs include keeping the government out of our health care so we are not punishing employers and workers and killing jobs.

Mike has introduced bills and resolutions supporting his staunch advocacy of cracking down on China's trade and currency manipulation practices that steal thousands of Michigan jobs. He is tirelessly working to stop any new taxes on small business owners or Michigan families, and dividends low on the very people who are creating and seeking jobs.

In addition, Mike believes there should be clarity in government regulations so businesses can know the rules of the road. He also wants to stop any new massive "cap and trade" energy tax that would kill manufacturing jobs in Michigan, and consistently opposes any bailouts that reward failure.

Mike is a strong proponent of creating thousands of new jobs through incentives to bring new nuclear, wind and solar power to Michigan, and he wants to renew the research and development tax credit to help ensure Michigan workers continue to make the best cars in the world.

Mike believes energy solutions can make our economic recovery a reality. He was one of the first to introduce a major energy proposal that outlines an "all of the above" approach to bring down the price of gas at the pump, lower the cost of heating our homes in the winter and cooling them in the summer; all while getting us off our dependence on overseas oil. He wants to make sure that every Michigan family looks forward to a future built on good jobs, healthy families, a clean environment, and a secure nation.

Working "across the aisle" on numerous issues, Mike has been involved in many bipartisan legislative efforts, including co-authoring bills dealing with improving care for pain patients, strengthening national security and public safety, improving telecommunications, extending unemployment benefits for laid off workers, and a variety of other issues important to preserving jobs and keeping America safe and prosperous.

Several of Mike's bills were signed into law during the current Congress, including the Pain Care Policy Act which expands research, education and awareness of chronic pain and its treatment, the Pathway for Biosimilars Act which creates incentives for development of generic biologic drugs to save patients thousands of dollars, and the Special Agent Samuel Hicks Families of Fallen Heroes Act which provides support for families of federal officers killed in the line of duty.

Mike's aggressive constituent services outreach finds solutions for the challenges that citizens face in getting through bureaucratic red tape when dealing with federal agencies such as the IRS, Social Security, Veterans Administration, and others.

Mike serves on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee, and also on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence where he is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Terrorism.

vets.jpgMike supported the Great Lakes Compact which keeps control of the Great Lakes in the hands of Great Lakes states and their citizens and leaders; and he has been an outspoken supporter of closing the Chicago Locks to prevent Asian Carp from getting into the Great Lakes and destroying the ecosystem that supports commercial and recreational fishing as well as the natural beauty of the world's largest fresh water system.

Rogers graduated from Adrian College, served in the U.S. Army, as an FBI agent, and in the Michigan Senate before being elected in 2000 to represent the 8th Congressional District. He lives in Howell, is married and has two children.
