U.S. Representative Mike Rogers knows that like his family, all Michigan families are feeling the pinch of high energy prices, high food prices and soaring health care expenses. That’s why Mike is working on common sense, bipartisan solutions to create Michigan jobs and has plans to cut high energy and health care costs.
Mike voted “no” on the Wall Street bailout. And he voted “no” the second time, too, to protect the interests of American taxpayers who will foot the bill for bailing out Wall Street fat cats who created the problem in the first place.
Mike believes that Michigan’s biggest challenge, and the challenge for all Americans, is getting our economy moving forward. Energy solutions can make our economic recovery a reality. He was one of the first to introduce a major energy proposal that outlines an “all of the above” approach. Mike’s energy plan would bring down the price of gas at the pump, lower the cost of heating our homes in the winter and cooling them in the summer; all while getting us off our dependence on overseas oil. It would make sure that every Michigan family looks forward to a future built on good jobs, healthy families, a clean environment, and a secure nation.
Mike’s American Energy Independence by July 4, 2015 legislation focuses on stopping the United States from sending billions and billions of dollars overseas to buy oil from countries that do not like the U.S., and are using our money to build up their own militaries and weaponry, and, in some cases, support terrorism. Mike’s 10-point energy plan addresses our need for economic security, national security, and environmental security.
Mike has introduced and voted for legislation extending unemployment benefits to laid off workers, raising the minimum wage by 23%, protecting worker pensions, and for several health care measures that make health care more affordable and accessible. He has secured federal resources for development of agriculture, defense, and alternative energy resources at Michigan State University; assisted many communities in tapping into federal resources for roads and other crucial infrastructure needs.
Mike’s aggressive constituent services outreach finds solutions for the challenges that citizens face in getting through the bureaucratic red tape when dealing with federal agencies like the IRS, Social Security, Veterans Administration, or others.
Mike serves on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee, and also on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence where he is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Terrorism.
Mike authored the law that keeps protestors away from the national cemetery funerals of men and women who make the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their nation. The measure makes it possible for grieving families to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of a loved one without the disrespect or vile harassment of protestors.
Mike supported the Great Lakes Compact which keeps control of the Great Lakes in the hands of Great Lakes states and their citizens and leaders.
Rogers graduated from Adrian College, served in the U.S. Army, as an FBI agent, and in the Michigan Senate before being elected in 2000 to represent the 8th Congressional District. He lives in Howell and has two children.
